Shanghai's long-running rookie squash event wrapped up its 20th edition at the Karakal Squash Centre.

The 2026 Squash Showcase Event & 20th Shanghai Squash Rookie Challenge for the Karakal Cup concluded last Sunday at the Karakal Squash Centre in Shanghai. Guided by the Small Ball Sports Administrative Centre of the General Administration of Sport of China, the event was hosted by Karaka (Shanghai) Sports & Culture Development Co., co-organised by the Karakal Squash Club and the Biran Extreme Squash Club, with support from the Shanghai Squash Association and Hongqiao Champions Hub.
Now in its 20th edition, the tournament has become one of Shanghai's signature grassroots events, targeting amateur junior players. It was run to national-level competition standards, balancing serious competition with spectator appeal. On court, young players displayed sharp movement and confident shot-making, showing the results of their training and reinforcing the local talent pipeline.
Organisers said future editions will continue to leverage professional event resources under the philosophy of "competition drives practice, culture and popularisation," focusing on youth development and helping to widen the sport's grassroots base in Shanghai.
